Solar Vibration & Flicker based installations and research

The Tools of Experience is an immersive audiovisual installation exploring perception as an active process rather than a passive reception of images. Built from iterating black-and-white square structures and polyrhythmic sound, the work destabilizes spatial, temporal and visual orientation through afterimages, moiré, visual noise and motion aftereffects. The installation gradually shifts from perceptual overload toward a meditative field of light.

Detailed description

The Tools of Experience is an immersive audiovisual installation that investigates perception as a continuously constructed event. Rather than treating the image as a stable visual object, the work approaches seeing and listening as temporal, physiological and spatial processes that emerge through the interaction of sensory stimuli, memory and expectation.

The visual system is generated from a radically reduced set of elements: black and white square frames whose iterations, movements and temporal relations progressively reorganize the architecture of the immersive space. In parallel, a polyrhythmic sound composition structures time through overlapping metres and recurring impulses, transforming the environment into a spatial audiovisual instrument.

Across the work, perceptual phenomena including afterimages, moiré interference, persistence of vision, eye jitter, gradient illusions and motion aftereffects are incorporated not as decorative optical effects, but as operative elements of the composition. Space appears to expand, oscillate, flatten or acquire impossible depth; discrete forms dissolve into visual noise, while movement generates forms that are not physically present.

The dramaturgy moves from rhythmic intensity and sensory instability toward Eigengrau—the internally perceived grey of darkness—and finally into a slowly transforming field of orange light. Perception itself becomes the medium: the work exists not only in the projected image or the sound field, but in the unstable interval between physical stimulus and subjective experience.
